Driving Technology Improvement: Standards, Labeling, and Product Selection

Driving Technology Improvement: Standards, Labeling, and Product Selection

Sector stakeholders benefit from a common terminology for evaluating and improving cookstove and fuel performance and adoption. Standards can compare technologies and determine whether they meet user needs and whether technologies have the potential to achieve desired benefits for health, livelihoods, and the environment. There are also challenging trade-offs that need to be considered when developing and implementing standards such as replicability vs. field conditions and rigorous versus affordable testing. Speakers will provide an overview on the current state of cookstove standards development, and how countries and international organizations can recognize these trade-offs when implementing standards and developing associated policies.
