Biography

Honourable Hajia Alima Mahama is a product of the University of Ghana, Legon, graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in Law and Sociology, and was subsequently called to Ghana Bar in 1982. She had her postgraduate studies in Public Policy and Development Planning and Administration from the Rutgers University and the University of Ottawa. She was also at the Institute of Social Studies, in the Netherlands, where she obtained a Masters in Development Studies, specializing in Regional Development Planning.

Hon. Hajia Alima Mahama is a gender expert with over 25 years of active legal education, development planning, legislative and policy planning and management experience in Ghana and Liberia.  She combined her background in Law with her development and policy perspectives during her tenure as Deputy Minister and Minister to advocate for social and gender rights at the highest levels of international conventions.

Hon. Hajia Alima Mahama is the Member of Parliament for the Nalerigu/Gambaga constituency in the Northern Region of Ghana and serves as the current Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, Ghana.
