Soma Dutta works on cross cutting issues of gender, poverty and development in the context of energy access. Between 2014 and until recently, she was leading ENERGIA’s Scaling up Energy Access through Women’s Economic Empowerment (WE) programme, which, through its partner organisations in Africa and Asia, supports 4000 women’s micro and small energy enterprises, building their capacities through business development training and technical assistance. The programme has reached clean energy services to 2.5 million people in hard-to-reach areas. She continues to support ENERGIA’s activities as a Technical Advisor. She also works as an independent consultant in the broader area of energy access, and has been advising policy makers, practitioners and international organizations.
